Occupational Stress and Burnout among Secondary School Teachers in Sokoto Metropolis – Nigeria: How Does Coping Strategies Matter?

This study investigated occupational stress and burnout among senior secondary school teachers in Sokoto metropolis their coping strategies. The population of the consisted all public Teachers metropolis, totaling (1, 216). One hundred ninety-six (196) respondents were selected based on Krejcie Morgan table determining sampling size from eight (8) schools. Descriptive design was used for study. Three adopted instruments titled; Teacher Stress Scale by Liman (2016) to measure teachers’ stress, Maslach Burnout Inventory-Educator Survey (MBI-ES) Maslach, Jackson Schwab (1986) burnout, Cope Inventory Carver, Sheier Weintraub (1989) strategies, collect data this research. hypotheses tested t-test analysis. findings shows that there is significance difference male female but, no significant strategies metropolis. Conclusively, research experience more than teachers. experienced can lead reduced productivity burnout. Nonetheless, should be inaugurated assist stress. Some recommendations made include need help resolve achieved through seminars, workshops, sensitization programs.
